Hailing from San Diego, California, Ryan Denny (”Ryan D”) has been producing music since he was twelve, when he hit the Amiga/MOD sequencing scene with heavy, rock-inspired rhythms and melodies. He then delved into MIDI composition, winning songwriting awards and publishing works on sites like Young Composers and MP3.com. In high school, he moved to loop-based and multi-track production workflows and discovered the endless possibilities of sampling, remixing, and creating mashups.

While attending BYU, Ryan’s experience as a percussionist and hip-hop dancer merged with his love of producing, and his DJ career began. After spinning hip-hop for three years, he was exposed to electro house in the summer of 2008 through friends in San Diego and Orange County. Returning to school in the fall, Ryan wanted to infuse his mixing with the energy of electro beats, but was unsure how his primarily hip-hop crowd would respond. He heard about EDP on Facebook just after their first event in September 2008, and approached Nam about working with the group. Hesitant at first because he knew Ryan was a hip-hop DJ, Nam gave him a shot and ended up liking the urban focus Ryan brought with his mixes.

Ryan describes his style as juicy electro beats mixed with familiar rap and hip-hop lyrics–a combo that’s danceable and a good transition for those who may be new to the electro scene. “Give it a shot,” he says, “and you just might find something you love. The energy, dynamics, and expression of the music we spin are what make Electric Dance Party events such a rush.”
