Cody Layton aka “Red Spectral”
“Some people ask what ‘Red Spectral’ is. It is a reference to my birthday in the Mayan Calendar. In Mayan history, art, architecture, and all new forms of expression were created. The Mayan people were effective in communicating what they saw in the world around them through these new mediums. That’s the philosophy of where my music comes from. I feel that creating and mixing music is the best way I can explain the world around me. Sometimes the music may have dark overtones, simply because the positive façades we see everyday often contain dark underbellies. It is my goal to have everyone on the floor dancing, while unconsciously throwing in vocal samples that tell a story. I began making music two years ago and new techniques and technologies help me create new sounds for each show. My influences are definitely Sound Tribe Sector 9, Telefon Tel Aviv, M83, Pretty Lights, and Flying Lotus. It may be difficult to put my sounds into a genre—some may reference dubstep, tribal house, and glitch.
My first and only performances have been with EDP, and it is an honor to be a part of a group of artists who care deeply about the music. These guys would rather play in front of 5 people who love the art they make, than 3,000 people raving over a neon façade in SLC.”

I’ve seen this dj a couple times, soooooo sick. I usually only catch the end half of his set because he’s usually first…move it back…the end
